Our goal is to be a student led community enhancing the experience of our fellow students.

As a student led organization, we are committed to improving the #SheridanLife for all students through student focused services, programs, events and advocacy. Here’s a look at how we did last year and where we are headed in the coming months:

 
 

Services

Highlights:

  • Last year, we launched Gluten-Free packages for our Food First Program to appeal to a larger demographic of students. For more info, click here.

  • Organized an Off-Campus Housing Fair to increase knowledge of student rights, tenant/landlord rights, and available housing options. For more information and resources, click here.

So far this year, we’ve:

  • Launched a Food First committee consisting of members from all parts of Sheridan to raise awareness and gather donations;

  • Increased involvement in the Perks Peeps discount program by expanding the network of partners offering student discounts;

  • Launched a fully digital way to request a Food First package that allows students to maintain their privacy.

In the coming months, we will:

  • Continue to make improvements to the services offered on campus;

  • Partner with local businesses to expand the offerings of the Food First program;

  • Increase service levels for SafeWalk, Food First, and other programs;

Clubs & Associations

Launched in September 2018, Clubs Corner is the SSU’s online platform available to the Sheridan community for all clubs at Sheridan to showcase their members, events and individual achievements throughout the year.

students signed up for Clubs Corner - 3,700 of which did so in the first 3 months.

So far this year, we’ve:

  • Changed the look and feel of Clubs, complete with new logos and colours;

  • engaged with over 8,330 students involved on Clubs Corner;

  • provided opportunities for 620 students to serve as the Executive Members of clubs;

  • created a tiered Clubs system that allows the SSU to provide more growth within our clubs, increase the amount of support to clubs who need it, and hold students accountable for the success of their events;

  • organized our clubs fair, this year known as “Clubs Carnival”, and begun planning a theme for the winter Clubs Fair in February; and

  • began discussions to complete a renovation and upgrade to our Trafalgar Clubs Room to provide a fresh look and feel for our clubs to meet on that campus.

In the coming months, we will:

  • Continue to make improvements to the Policy and Procedures for Academic Clubs, making it easier than ever to participate in out-of-classroom learning in a club;

  • Improve the ease-of-use of Clubs Corner to streamline the process to complete forms, access grants, and track membership;

  • Reveal a renovated Trafalgar Clubs Room that provides a welcome space for clubs to collaborate, engage, and relax with their members.

#FrosHellaGood Times

We're officially back to school, and it's safe to say that September was a busy month here at the SSU! Here's what we've been up to: ✨ We hosted a Froshella week, where we welcomed new and returning students to Sheridan!

So far this year, we’ve:

  • Increased the regularity of our programming in The Marquee and The Den to provide students a more consistent activity to get involved in throughout the year;

  • seen over 2,000 students get involved in events in the first week of September;

  • introduced a new student role at each campus, the Student Life Coordinator, to streamline the creation, planning, and execution of events and awareness campaigns; and

  • planned three major programming and awareness themes for the year focusing on Mental Health & Healthy Lifestyles, Multicultural Awareness, and Sustainability & Environmental awareness.

In the coming months, we will:

  • Continue to plan and organize more musical acts, pub nights, Desi jams, pop-up events, and awareness campaigns that integrate student feedback.

 
 

Trafalgar Operations

Last year, we expanded the menus to include new gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan menus at The Marquee and Coffee Loft, introduced a non-alcoholic blended drink menu and increased focus on our craft beer and draught lineup and extended the hours at the Coffee Loft to be open earlier in the morning All in response to your feedback!

So far this year, we’ve:

  • Introduced a new Booster Juice location providing food options in response to demand for healthier food options;

  • announced a new management and supervisory structure for our venues;

  • refreshed the menu at The Marquee, with the introduction of more plant-based protein menu options;

  • started brewing Planet Bean coffee at the Coffee Loft; and

  • continued all-day breakfast bagels at the Coffee Loft.

 
 

Davis Operations

Last year, we expanded our menus at The Den to include more cocktail options and Cake Shakes, introduced a new breakfast sandwich program at the Bruin Coffee House with made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, and extended the hours at all operations in response to student feedback.

So far this year, we’ve:

  • Introduced an INS Market to provide grab-and-go food options to students on campus;

  • announced a new management and supervisory structure for our venues;

  • refreshed the menu at The Den, with the introduction of more plant-based protein menu options;

  • revitalized The Den with new paint and lighting in response to student feedback;

  • launched new draught and packaged beer brands, ready-to-drink cocktails, and cocktail menus at The Den; and

  • started brewing Planet Bean coffee at the Bruin Coffee House.

 
 

Marketing

It’s been a busy time for our marketing and creative departments too! Not only did we host the referendum last year, but we also saw the introduction of the Student Choice Initiative, worked closer with our student leaders to create organic social media content, audited our communications to ensure we are being more accessible to all students, and worked with our students to plan the identity and branding for our spaces coming to HMC next year! Here are some of the highlights:

increase to our Instagram following. Not only were more students tuning in, but you were also more engaged that ever before, especially through our stories.

So far this year, we’ve:

  • We revamped our Food Services social media and are in the process of creating a website to better showcase our venues and everything they have to offer. Follow along on Instagram @ssuhungry!

  • We gave our Clubs and Associations a new visual identity! We updated the look and feel of Clubs Corner and all promotional visuals to better represent the diversity of our clubs here at Sheridan.

  • Increased our Instagram following by 54%, Facebook by 17% and Twitter by 15%. With more students following along, we are committed to providing valuable content that informs, inspires and engages students at Sheridan and beyond.

  • We audited our website and social channels to ensure we met AODA standards and continue to strive for more accessible communications, both online and in print.

  • We introduced two new student roles to our team - Marketing Street Team Supervisor and Digital Marketing Assistant. This furthers our commitment to the student voice within all our communications.

  • Our video team has put together monthly updates so we can highlight all the great things that happen at the SSU. And there is a lot more to come, so check out our YouTube channel here.
